Gibson Guitar
The Gibson Guitar Corporation is one of today’s largest musical instrument manufacturers. In addition to their own line of stringed instruments, they also make instruments under other brand names including Epiphone and Steinberger. They also own Baldwin pianos as well as Slingerland drums.
The ES-150 was the first electric Gibson guitar. Introduced in 1936, this “electric Spanish” guitar was an arch-topped, hollow body instrument that is largely considered the first commercially viable electric guitar. This was followed up in 1949 with the ES-175, which is still being made today.
In an effort to compete with the Fender guitar company, in 1952 the “Les Paul” solid body Gibson guitar was introduced. This guitar became a favorite for a generation of rock and roll musicians. Guitar gods like Jimmy Paige, Eric Clapton, and John Lee Hooker have all played on the “Les Paul”.
